Cosmetics giant Coty is the latest company to face a pending lawsuit. Just two days ago news spread that Coty was under scrutiny for a mascara that is part of the Rimmel line. The Rimmel London Lash Accelerator Mascara advertises that with regular use within a 30 day period consumers will see their lashes lengthen by 37 percent.
The lawsuit has been filed by a dissatisfied customer named Yanira Algarin. Algarin says that the Rimmel mascara does not do what it is advertised to do. The case against Coty is still being decided upon by a judge in San Diego. The case could potentially lead to a class action lawsuit. As of now Coty has still not responded.
Coty is not the only company who been scrutinized over false advertising. Mary Kay, Estee Lauder and Avon have also found themselves in hot water for not updating customers that they were no longer cruelty-free when they started marketing in China where animal testing is mandatory. Avon along with Lancome (L'Oreal) has been accused of false advertising claims for several of their anti-aging products. In recent months Maybelline, who is part of the L'Oreal family, has also been hit with a class action lawsuit over lipsticks that claim to last over 10 hours. Suave is also involved in a class action lawsuit over a keratin straightening system that caused scalp injuries.
